gaim-2.0.0beta5 .deb for edgy eft and feisty the fawn

Gaim 2.0.0beta5 has just been released. There is a lot of bug fixes from beta4.

Gaim 2.0.0beta5 fixes up a lot of bug from beta4.

As the previous version, there is this great new feature: gaim-text which allow Unix/Linux user to use gaim in text mode.

You can learn more about gaim-text from the article gaim-text 2.0.0beta4.

Packages are available for ubuntu dapper, ubuntu edgy eft and ubuntu feisty fawn from Debuntu.org .deb repository.

I would like to thanks Gvozden for having compiled the package for amd64 architecture. It is now available to download from debuntu repository.

Hope you enjoy ;)

The keybinding bug has been corrected :)

Dbus networkmanager support

This is a great addition, thanks for the work! But one of the great improvements of beta4 and later is missing ... Gaim now has a feature that causes it to automatically disconnect when it receives dbus notification that network connection is lost (this is really helpful for laptops). This doesn't seem to be enabled in this package. Is there any reason that it can not be enabled by default? (I.e., would it break on machines that don't have network manager?)

That's right.I've just

That's right.
I've just backported gaim 2.0.0beta6 for edgy eft and added NetworkManager support.
Check gaim 2.0.0 beta6 release.
Hope this helps,

dependency problems

I see packages for 'gaim-dev' and 'gaim-dbg' that are version 1:2.0.0+beta5ubuntu2, but they won't install, because the main gaim package is version 2:2.0.0+beta3.1-0ubuntu1.

How can I get the newer version installed?

got to remove older gaim

the gaim package you are talking about as a higher release number than the current one (2:2xxx compare to 1:2xxx) because of a mistake I made a while ago.
To install the new version, you need to remove the older gaim version:

sudo apt-get remove gaim

then you will be able to install gaim-dev ... without any hassle.
Mind that removing gaim might remove ubuntu-desktop at the same time. So please reinstall it after

That fixed it

Okay, that worked. The dependency that wanted to remove ubuntu-desktop along with gaim was what was scaring me.

I removed gaim and gaim-data, and let it automatically remove ubuntu-desktop. Then I re-installed ubuntu-desktop, which correctly included the new gaim. Looks like everything is good now.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Cool, sorry if I made a

Cool, sorry if I made a mistake in the first place.

No sound with amd64 packtage.

I havan't any sound on amd64 with edgy.

no amd64 machine available

Sorry, but I don't have any amd64 machine at hand to package for it.
But you might want to download the sources and try to repackage it.

Sound should be working now

Hi all,
I've repackaged gaim for dapper, the sound issue should be solved now.
Hope you enjoy it :)

It's fixed ! Thanks a lot !!

It's fixed !
Thanks a lot !!

Any clue ?

So, have you got any clue on this sound problem in your package ?
It's definitely linked to package, since you said the Edgy package does not have any problem...

Any chance of getting this

Any chance of getting this one packaged for Dapper finally, or not at all ?

gaim for dapper coming up

Yep,
I might upload it by tonight.
EDIT: ok, it is uploaded now, let me know how it works, as I can't try it myself.

Thanks a lot !!!! It's

Thanks a lot !!!!

It's working perfectly, I've installed the libnotify plugin too, there's no problem at all.
I just had to uninstall the previous gaim I installed from your repo, since this new one didn't appear as an upgrade, and then it was available as a normal package.

Thanks again !!

cool

Nice to hear that it works fine :)
Enjoy your new gaim then ;)

Might be a problem after all

Sorry to bug you with that but there might be one problem with your Gaim beta 5 Dapper package.
The package doesn't seem to be built with sound support... There's no sound at all when receiving messages, even after trying to enable it in the sound preferences (I tried a "quick & dirty" Dapper beta5 package which had sound, so it's coming from your package).
If it's something obvious you can fix in your package, please check it out...

Not happening here

Hi merlin,
On which distro does the problem occurs?
I checked it out on my edgy box, went to "preferences->Sounds" and it works. I'm using the settings:
method: automatic
Testing the sound events with the test button worked fine :).
Please, let me know if this happened on an edgy box, or something else.
Debuntu

It's happening on a Dapper

It's happening on a Dapper box. In sound preferences I have no other choice than "System beep","Command" or "No sound". There's no "Automatic" like in the beta 3 or on your Edgy box...(there's no volume slider either; at the moment I'm using the command field to get sound but I can't set the volume).

thanks for your up in your

thanks for your up in your depot!!

Hi FYI there's

Hi

FYI there's gaim-libnotify 0.12

Could you please update also the revu page in ubuntu? I would love this in the distro and not through a 3rd party repo

thanks

gaim-libnotify 0.12 .deb uploaded

Hi,
Thanks for informing me about gaim-libnotify-0.12. As gaim-libnotify front page did not mention it, I was not aware of it :s.
Gaim-libnotify 0.12 is going to be on debuntu repo for a while, I will submit it to revu.

gaim libnotify

Hi

Thanks for the packages, I've also installed gaim-libnotify gaim-libnotify 0.11 Ported to >=gaim-2.0.0beta4 API and it doesn't work correctly, it makes gaim crash on exit.

Also, I think you're the one that has tried to upload gaim-libnotify to ubuntu, any news on this? It's strange that debian still hasn't uploaded this package to their unstable repositories...

Thanks

That's right, disabling

That's right, disabling gaim-libnotify, does not make gaim crash on exit, but this is a minor issue :).
I try to disable the bit I modified in the source, but it was still crashing, then I guess the crash is not due to my changes.
I will inform gaim-libnotify developer about the crash.

There's still many Dapper users

I believe there's still many Dapper users out there, and it's just a pity that we can't get new Gaim updates for it...
The packages for Dapper, including gaim-libnotify, are just so hard to find, everybody's making packages for Edgy now...
Please come up with something asap...

add debuntu edgy repo

Sorry for that, but as I don't have dapper installed anymore, I can't really compile and try package.
You might want to try adding debuntu edgy repository just the time you install gaim and gaim-libnotify, I believe it might work without any troubles.
